  • UK retailer: I worked for a large UK retailer, delivering a research project on the global measurement of sustainability at farm level.
  • Strategic Support: I worked for GIZ, an international enterprise owned by the German Federal Government that cooperates with private enterprises working on sustainable development. I delivered the mid-term evaluation for this initiative that aims to develop a commonly accepted Global Benchmark Tool that will include a credible process by which seafood certification schemes can be objectively and systematically assessed. I worked as facilitator for their Steering Board and supported their Secretariat. I have written their Charter and worked on strategic planning and scope extension.
  • AB Sustain: This specialist consultancy company is part of the agricultural group of Associated British Foods (ABF). I worked with a number of researchers and through consultation with European contacts to consider non-UK opportunities for a range of their models that measure sustainability outcomes.
  • The Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA): CTA is a joint international institution of the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) group of states and the European Union. Its mission is to advance food and nutritional security, increase prosperity and encourage sound natural resource management in ACP countries. I have worked with them to facilitate outreach to the private sector.
  • Traidcraft Exchange: Cashew supply chain mapping. Traidcraft exchange is the U.K.'s only development charities specialising in making trade work for the poor. I have delivered an overview and analysis of the global trade flows of cashew nuts. This included identifying countries of production and consumption, the companies involved in buying and selling and a trade overview with data on trends of volumes and prices.
  • IDH The Sustainable Trade Initiative is a Dutch publicly funded organisation that organises change in commodity supply chains. They provide the secretariat for the Better Cotton Fast Track Program. I facilitated the Program’s governance process and supported their strategic planning and policy making from 2011 - 2013.
  • The Consumer Goods Forum. The CGF is an independent global parity based consumer goods network that brings together the CEOs and senior management of around 650 retailers and brand manufacturers. I facilitated a two-day meeting of their Sustainability Measurement Working Group which is considering how to achieve convergence on the measurement of the environmental impact of the production and supply of consumer goods.
  • The Sustainable Seafood Coalition. The SSC is a UK partnership of seafood businesses with a vision that all fish and seafood sold in the UK should be from sustainable sources. I ran a workshop with the group about their global work on the lessons of collaboration and working with voluntary codes.
  • The Innovation Centre for US Dairy provides a forum for the dairy industry to work pre-competitively to address barriers to and opportunities for innovation and sales growth. In May 2011 I interviewed 30 business leaders from North America and Europe to support the development of a White Paper on measuring dairy sustainability.
  • I worked with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation developing retailer outreach and support for projects. Working with their ‘Global Development Program’ I built relationships at senior level to build understanding of work on fruit, cocoa, cotton and cashew.
  • Stratos is a sustainability consultancy based in Ottawa, Canada. They are facilitating a national initiative on sustainable agriculture that includes retailers, brand manufacturers and farming organisations. I advised them on the global context of their work.
  • Developing a global communication rooted in the science of the health and environmental benefits of pulses for Pulse Canada, the federation of Canadian Trade Associations.
  • Outreach Director for the Global Social Compliance Programme. GSCP is a business-driven programme for companies who want to harmonise their existing efforts in order to deliver a shared, consistent and global approach for the continuous improvement of working conditions in global supply chains.
  • I developed and wrote the script for “The Buying Game” for Traidcraft and the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply.
  • I participated in the Institute of Biology Food Policy Workshop as an independent expert. This was organised by the University of Reading and the Scottish Crop Research Institute
  • Chairman of the first Procurement for Development Forum, with the UK Government and Chatham House. (Food industry directors from retailing and manufacturing working together to understand reputational issues concerning food from Africa)
  • Advisor and facilitator to Regoverning Markets programme, including facilitation of a four day international research workshop in Mexico
